Private Catholic Secondary School
Islandeady, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland
St. Patrick's Academy, founded in 1985, is a private Catholic independent fee paying
second level school which provides full-time education for day students. We provide
boarding facilities for boys. Girls are accommodated with local families. The school
was founded as a student-friendly place where young people can learn and grow academically,
spiritually and physically in a safe, caring, environment. The school is situated
in a most picturesque setting among trees and woodland in the shadow of Ireland's
holy mountain, Croagh Patrick. The surroundings lend themselves to a most tranquil
atmosphere which in turn helps our students to benefit from a stress-free environment.
The motto of the school is 'IN DEO CONFIDIMUS' which means "In God we Trust". The
religious aspect of our school is very central to our teaching. We translate our
love of God into a positive love of neighbour approach. Kindness is the key to our
success. We treat our students kindly, respecting their personal dignity and they
in respond in like manner, because they know we genuinely care for each and everyone
of them. This results in a happy, family-like atmosphere which enables our students
to give of their best.
The school has a clear Catholic identity with a religion curriculum based on the
Catechism and the authentic Magesterium. Character formation and personal spiritual
development with high academic standards are our primary objectives. We provide a
well-balanced education based on an assessment of each student's abilities and particular
needs. Every effort is made to personalise the course of study to the individual
pupil. The school has a principal and fully qualified teachers as well as secretarial
and maintenance staff. The Academy is proud of its success in helping students overcome
any emotional or educational difficulties they may have.
